Bill McCreadie, Aurum Press Anna Dreda, Wenlock Books Amanda Ross, Producer, Richard and Judy Bookclub
On May 9th 2006, Wenlock Books won the Aurum Press Independent Bookseller of the Year Award, presented by Amanda Ross at the Gala Dinner which drew the Booksellers' Association Annual Conference to an end.
This was such a proud moment for me, and wonderful validation of everything I had been working towards here in my bookshop over the last two and a half years.
I couldn't wait to get back to the bookshop and share the elation with my staff, customers and friends, and also my reading group, who were meeting that afternoon.

Congratulations on the award - and also on starting your blog - Nicki and I have just got back, and we'll post a suitable entry on our blog this evening.
We were totally inspired by your wonderful shop, just the extra energy we need between now and July 1st!
Long live independent bookselling indeed!
dear Anna
I dont know if you remember me...Jennifer from Australia, Perce's good friend??? Here I sit in a small outback town in South Australia and it enered my mind that I should take a quick peek at the progress of Wenlock books! For it seems every now and again I am compelled to give in to nostalgia when I think back to my afternoons in the loft of the shop wrapped in the sunshine with a coffee beside me, an open book on my knee. Often it remained unread as I gazed out the window, for it seemed while living in Much Wenlock I had begun living the very fiction I always dreamed...the act of opening a book up was enough to lift the veil between the real and the imagined. And I think so fondly of you and of Perce. My 9 months in Much Wenlock would have meant little if not for this shop, this sacred space. To sit and weave. Time and metre...the weft of the surrounding land only appeared to me through the warp of the stories infused with so much meaning. Layering of myth and archetype so rich, too rich even to be portrayed in a book. So the bookseller fills the role of storyteller, the songlines open the ley to pass through that place. The vibration of sound within those walls, the Word on the page manifest carries its love around the globe and reaches me here...some seven years later. Probably forever. Congratulations Anna!!! My Love to you for maintaining the hoops of the world with the power of the book, the story in the communion of the word...
love jennifer King
